Ep.85/ How to Not “Attach” Quickly When Dating

Some of us fall hard and fast for someone we like, and though it can feel amazing, if we are not patient, it can ultimately bite us in the butt later.

Thanks to attachment science, we now better understand the inner workings of how we connect and relate with others. While some of us may take a detached approach to matters of the heart (avoidant attachers), others tend to dive headfirst into the emotional highs of connecting with someone we're attracted to (anxious attachers).

And though there's nothing wrong with basking in the possibilities of new love, we want to make sure we are mindful of our attachment systems, which are always at work behind the scenes.

There are many things we can do to prevent anxiety and stress when navigating the dating realm. When we step back and approach getting to know people more objectively, we can protect ourselves and make wiser decisions about whom we give our hearts to.

In this week's podcast episode, I talk about:

-What it looks like to "attach" prematurely when dating.

-Why those of us with anxious attachment aspects tend to “attach” quickly and intensely compared to other attachment styles.

-Why taking your time to get to know someone is crucial.

-Tools to prevent yourself from attaching too soon when dating.
